- York Region has a multicultural population of more than one million people (1,011,000 as of December 2008).
- The Region has been growing by an average of 31,000 new residents each year for the last five years. It has nearly 17 per cent of the GTA population, but accounts for more than 22 per cent of its growth.
- 74 per cent of the population lives in the southern part of York Region (Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan)
- The top languages spoken in York Region are: English, French, Chinese, Farsi, Italian, Punjabi and Russian.
- Compared to the rest of the GTA and Canada, York Region has a "younger" population, that is better educated, wealthier and lives longer overall.
