Political Involvement

  • York Regional Council unanimously supports the festival both financially (it used to be subsidized) and through participation. Each year all councilors and mayors within the Region are invited to attend.
  • The honorary chair of the festival is Mayor Frank Scarpitti of the Town of Markham. Mayor Scarpitti has been a huge supporter of this educational conservation initiative and has attended the festival every year since its launch. He always makes time to talk to the students, discussing where water comes from and how we can preserve it.
Award presentation by local mayors.
  • Also in attendance was the venue's host, Mayor Wayne Emmerson of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, who assisted Mayor Scarpitti in speaking to the students and presenting awards.
