Hard work and dedication has been at the root of our success in 2006. Investing in our Region has been an exciting journey in maintaining and enhancing The Regional Municipality of York.
In 2006, we continued to focus on the health and well-being of our residents. We prepared for “Operation Flu-Ready”, an interactive workshop with simulated exercises surrounding an Influenza Pandemic to assess emergency preparedness.
We opened new paramedic response stations in strategic locations across the Region and enhanced our long term care programs through the addition of beds at the Newmarket Health Centre and constructed a new program room at the Maple Health Centre.
Our Transportation and Works team built 40 kilometers of road lanes and made improvements to 25 intersections to ensure the continued movement of traffic and ease of congestion.
Over 100 hectares of conservation lands were secured through both donation and purchases, in addition to our Greening Strategy partnerships, to maintain a sound investment in our environment.
Throughout 2006, we continued to work with our funding partners to enhance York Region’s environment and human services. We completed construction of Blue Willow, a 60-unit apartment building for seniors in the City of Vaughan and provided $3.7 million to both the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority for water initiatives, land conservation and education.
York Region continues in its commitment to provide cost effective, quality services that respond to the needs of our communities.
Thanks to the commitment and dedication of York Regional staff, coupled with the vision and strategic leadership of Regional Council and our Senior Management Team, we continue to build a strong and sustainable region.
Sincerely,
Michael Garrett
