September 2009 Chronic Disease PreventionAdopting a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk for developing chronic illnesses such as heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and some cancers. The goal of this program is to promote, protect and support healthy lifestyles in order to delay the onset and reduce the incidence of chronic diseases in York Region.
Early Detection of CancerThe goal of this program is to increase the awareness among community members of the need to participate in early detection and screening programs for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer. Workplace WellnessThe Workplace Wellness Team provides consultative services on starting a comprehensive workplace wellness program, ideas for maintaining and continuing a wellness program, and assistance in the creation of workplace health policies. We provide information on current health topics in the form of: educational workshops, displays, and resources. Our team of Health Professionals include Public Health Nurses, Public Health Inspectors, Dental Practitioners, Health Educators and Nutritionists. Substance UseSubstance Use – It Comes in All Shapes & Sizes
Anything that is taken into the body that changes the way you think, act or feel is a substance. People have choices to make every day and some of them will be about substance use. Our intention is to provide you with information on a variety of substances, trends in substance use, and social issues involving substance use so that you can make an informed choice. Injury PreventionAn ounce of prevention goes a long way.
The Injury Prevention Program endeavours to increase the awareness, knowledge, and skills of the residents and employees in York Region to reduce the injuries and fatalities associated with unintentional injuries. Main program areas are: road safety, childhood and recreational injuries, and falls prevention and seniors issues. |
