Operating Procedures

This site is to be used by York Region residents and businesses only. Proof of residency is required.

Please check this information before your visit as procedures are subject to change during construction phases.

  1. Enter the site and drive up to the scale. Stop at the stop sign.
  2. Speak to the attendant through the intercom and provide the following information:
    1. What city/town you are from.
    2. What type of materials you are disposing (e.g. garbage, recyclables, yard waste, household hazardous waste, electronics, refrigerated appliances).
    • Fees will apply for loads containing chargeable materials (dedicated or mixed).  Customers have the option to circle the site twice if they do not wish to pay for blue box recyclables, metal, electronics, household hazardous waste and tires.
    • If you have any chargeable materials (such as garbage, concrete, mixed loads or yard waste) the scale house attendant will ask you to collect a card to display on your dashboard. This card is required to access the garbage, concrete and yard waste drop-off areas of the site.
    • If you declare you do not have garbage, concrete or yard waste, but have a dedicated load of recyclables (free materials) only, you do not require a card and you will not have access to the garbage, concrete and yard waste disposal areas.
  1. Approach the scale when instructed by the attendant over the intercom. Stop on the scale at the stop sign to be weighed. Remain in your vehicle. You will not be able to speak to the attendant.
  2. Wait for the green light to proceed to access the site.
  3. Drive to unloading area(s) and place waste materials at designated locations, as posted by signs or as directed by staff.
  4. Following unloading, all vehicles are required to drive over the outbound scale, prior to leaving the site, and pay the applicable waste disposal fee(s).
  5. Please have payment ready to reduce line-ups and speed up service (visa, cash and debit (with tap) are accepted).
  6. The computerized weigh scale system calculates waste disposal charges. Fees will be charged for all vehicles that collected a card.
  7. The maximum load weight for concrete at Georgina Transfer Station is 500 kilograms.
  8. Return card to scale attendant.
  9. Please note that fees and hours are subject to change without notice.
