Parenting Education and Support

York Region offers webinars on a variety of parenting topics and two free programs for parents: Bounce Back & Thrive and Transition to Parenting. These are all led by registered nurses. Programs are offered at locations throughout York Region.

Bounce Back & Thrive!

The Bounce Back & Thrive! program teaches parents and caregivers about coping with stress. Participants learn skills to help themselves and their children feel less stressed and more hopeful about the future.

Transition to Parenting

The Transition to Parenting program is for mothers with babies up to one year of age and pregnant women who are experiencing mood changes, including anxiety or depression, or are looking for support while adjusting to parenthood. This program provides information, support and resources to help women cope and feel better.

Bounce Back & Thrive! from the daily challenges of parenting:
Learn about resilience and how flexible thinking can help you cope with the daily challenges of parenting.

How to Tame the Temper Tantrum: Do you have a child between four to six years of age? Do you feel embarrassed when your child has a temper tantrum in a public place like the grocery store? Tantrums are a form of communication; learn how to listen and understand what your child may be telling you. Discover how a positive time out to help your child cope with daily stress.

Nurturing Responsibility: Do you have a child between four to six years of age? Do you wonder when your child will start to put their toys away? Learn how to teach your child responsibility – one step at a time. Learn two parenting strategies that are an important part of teaching children life skills and building self-esteem in your child. Understanding your child’s behaviour: Do you have a child between four to six years of age? Are you sometimes confused about your child’s behaviour and not sure what to do? In this video we talk about behaviour challenges and what is going on in your child’s brain. Learn how to understand your child’s feelings and provide comfort when they misbehave leads to cooperation.

Depression and Anxiety after Having a Baby: Mood disorders, including anxiety and/or depression, can begin during pregnancy. One in five women will experience a mood disorder when they become a mom. Learn more about risk factors for mood disorders, signs and symptoms, coping strategies and supports available in York Region. 

Reduce morning power struggles and start your day on time!: Do you struggle getting your child ready and out the door for childcare or school? Are you telling your child what to do over and over and getting little or no cooperation? Are you losing your cool and feeling frustrated or angry?
You’ll learn how to create a routine chart, give encouragement and use curiosity questions to teach your child self-discipline, self-reliance and the ability to think for themselves. This webinar is for parents with children between two to four years of age.
