Highway 7 Protected Bike Lane Pilot

The Regional Municipality of York has installed flexible posts to increase safety and protect cyclists as part of a protected bike lane pilot project. The pilot area spans a 500 metre segment of the bicycle lane on the north side of Highway 7 between Town Centre Boulevard and Rodick Road in the City of Markham. This pilot will run until October 2017. Protected bike lanes that provide physical separation between motorists and cyclists has emerged as a best practice in cities across the world. Flexible posts have been used successfully across Canada in cities like Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax and many other cities globally.
