York Region is a great place to explore by bicycle. Many community partners host cycling events across the region including family-oriented community rides, charity events, races, workshops and scenic tours.  There are cycling events for all ages and abilities.

Join the world in celebration of the 5th annual International Bike to Work Day by biking to work in promotion of more fun and healthier commutes.

Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. – Earth Hour Vaughan
Cycling Night Ride: Celebrate Earth Hour at Vaughan City Hall in a fun night ride with booths, prizes, and glow sticks! Prep your bike with lights and colours, bring an environmentally friendly cup for refreshments, and enjoy live entertainment. Night ride begins at 8:30 p.m. Register

Sunday, March 26, 2017 – Heck of the North
Real Deal Racing challenges riders with an on- and off-road race. In this test of bravery, physical fitness, and skill, riders push themselves and their road-bikes to their limits to compete for the best times and prizes. Mountain and cyclocross bikers are encouraged to participate in the off-road Hell of the North race. Snacks and coffee are provided. Register now because spots are limited!

Saturday, April 22, 2017 – Earth Day Discovery Ride
Join York Region staff on a series of free themed bike rides and discover just how fun cycling is. The rides vary in length, difficulty, and location. There is something for everyone. Adventures await! Register

Every Tuesday from April 25, 2017 to September 5, 2017 – King Mountain Biking Series
Participate in a friendly competition to share your love and knowledge of riding, and improve your fitness and skills. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome. There will be weekly photos, prizes, and demo bikes. Be crowned as a Series Champ! Register

Every Wednesday from April 26, 2017 to September 6, 2017 – Spoke O’Motion Weekly MTB Race Series
Join Ontario’s mountain biking history at Coulson Hill in an all-ages, family-friendly weekly racing series where Canada’s national biking champions were born. New races are available every week and range from 1-4.5 km courses. This series will hook riders into mountain biking like they have never experienced before. Register

Every Thursday from May 11, 2017 to September 14, 2017 at 7 p.m. – Thursday Night Time Trial
Riders are once again challenged by Real Deal Racing to compete every Thursday in a 15km time trial bike race. Weekly results are posted online after each race, and a Series Champion will be crowned! Trial clinics and bike demos will be available as well.

Saturday, May 27, 2017 – York Region Family Fun Day
Join York Region in its 11th annual fun, interactive, and family-oriented event to promote the awareness of the Region’s services. Children are invited to participate in the bike rodeo, where they will learn the skills and awareness of bicycle safety! Enjoy other activities such as the charity BBQ, prizes, meet and greets, and more.

Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 6:30 a.m. – Villa Charities Giro di Vaughan
Fundraise for Villa Charities in the 100 km GranFondo route or the 60 km MedioFondo route, with refreshments at Italian themed rest stops. Cyclists will receive a buffet breakfast and a GIRO and Azzurra gift for participating. Help provide essential services to seniors in this fun cycling challenge.

Sunday, May 28, 2017 – The Lake Ride
Join the community in a fun, collaborative ride from Newmarket to Lake Simcoe and back. All proceeds of this fundraising event will be used for critical cancer treatment equipment at the Southlake Regional Health Centre. All are welcome to attend and join the cause!

Monday, May 29, 2017 to Friday, June 2, 2017 – Bike to School Week
Join students across the GTHA in celebration of Bike to School Week by cycling to school. Register your school’s Bike to School Week events for rewards and to support EcoSchools and Healthy Schools programs.

Monday, May 29, 2017 – Bike to Work Day
Kick-start Bike Month by joining the GTHA in a healthy and environmentally-friendly bike ride to work! Enter a prize draw for 1 of 3 VIA Rail $500 vouchers by submitting your cycle trips on the Smart Commute tool. Help promote healthier lifestyles in the month of June with fellow GTHA cyclists.

Sunday, June 4, 2017 – Zareinu Moveathon
Support Zareinu’s children and their families by riding in a family-focused, all-ages fundraiser. Take a tour of York Region and the Oak Ridges Moraine in one of four challenging routes. Refuel with snacks and refreshments at rest stops, enjoy thank-you gifts from Zareinu and join the community in a celebratory BBQ at the finish line! Register

Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. – Hike or Bike for Hospice Vaughan
Support families who are dealing with lost loved ones in a fun, all-ages, fundraising bike ride. Enjoy a BBQ lunch and meet cyclists in the community! Register

Sunday, June 4, 2017 – York Regional Police Ride 4 Styles
Commemorate fallen officer Constable Garrett Styles in the 7th annual Ride 4 Styles charity fundraising event. Join the Region’s riders in a fun, 45 km or 70 km route with free food and drinks, prizes, and live entertainment. Register to reserve a spot and receive an event t-shirt!

Sunday, June 4, 2017 and Sunday June 25, 2017 – MHF Ride for Health
Join over 200 riders in support for Mackenzie Health in a scenic, 60 km or 100 km tour of York Region. Funds are used to equip and improve Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Become the top fundraiser and have your name engraved on the Mackenzie Health Foundation Rider Cup! Register to ride or donate.

Saturday, June 10, 2017 – Moraine for Life Relay Adventure
All are challenged in this dynamic, 160 km team relay race. Run, bike, and canoe to the finish line in support of the Oak Ridge Trail Association’s work to preserve the Trail. Complete in a team of two to push yourself to the fullest, or add another 10 racers to your roster for a collaborative, team experience! Register your Corporate, Elite, or Recreational team. Early Bird registration rates available until Sunday, April 30, 2017.

Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 8 a.m. – Tour de Speed
Youths between 9 to 16 years of age are invited to compete in various races against cyclists from southern Ontario in the rolling hills of Newmarket. Racers will enjoy a free t-shirt, BBQ lunch, and prize medals.

Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Highway 7 Foodie Ride
Join us on a food adventure along Highway 7’s treasure cove of diverse, delicious restaurants and shops. Try something new for every course of your Wednesday night dinner – indulge in an appetizer at the start, taste some desserts and sweet beverages along the way, pick up a rich dinner at one of the many highly rated restaurants at East Beaver Creek, and repeat as you wish on the way back. Make sure you fill up for this 10km, faster-paced ride – we welcome food warriors from all of York Region. You must register in advance here.

Join Jordan and Hartley in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada to raise awareness and to improve the lives of those living with muscular dystrophy in a 50 km or 100 km ride.

Help support the Canadian Mental Health Association in a community ride with cyclists of all abilities and ages. Enjoy a fun adventure with cheering fans, rest stops, and a positive atmosphere. Contribute to Canada’s efforts to break the mental health stigma and fund mental health programs!

Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. –Lake Simcoe Beaches Discovery Ride
Enjoy the scenery of the southern shore of Lake Simcoe on our Lake Simcoe Beaches ride, part of the Lake to Lake Route. We will be stopping at a variety of beaches, parks, and conservation areas, as well as a delicious local ice cream shop.  You must register in advance here.

Sunday, July 30, 2017 – Ride for Christian
Various challenges are available to riders to raise funds to help support children born with Williams Syndrome. Enjoy a scenic and safe route while listening to live entertainment and riding at your own pace. A free organic BBQ lunch and refreshments, prizes, photos, and children’s activities will be available as well, making this event fun for the whole family.

Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Main Streets Foodie Ride
Join York Region on our second food expedition of the season. This time, we are trying the more old-fashioned destinations of Main Street Unionville and Main Street Markham. Support the local business owners and experience the historical delicacies of Markham. All are invited to enjoy a taste of Unionville and Markham Village. You must register in advance here.

Sunday, August 27, 2917 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  – Richmond Hill Tweed Ride
Dress up in your best vintage apparel and join us on our Tweed Ride! If you have a vintage bike, bring that too! Explore Richmond Hill’s Heritage District and learn about its rich history and scenic views of Mill Pond. Visit the well-maintained heritage buildings, including the Richmond Hill Heritage Centre from the 1840s, and enjoy an afternoon tea in the garden. Support Richmond Hill’s local artists at the Group of Artists gallery and participate in our vintage cycling photoshoot by the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts! Help send children with cancer to camp and purchase equipment for treatment centres with Ride for Karen. Ride in the 200 km Double Metric Century Ride, the 160 km Century Ride, or the 100 km Metric Century Ride through challenging valleys and farmlands!

Thursday, September 21, 2017 -   JDRF Revolution Ride to Defeat Diabetes
Join JDRF at Markham Pan Am Centre for a high-energy stationary cycling event taking place in cities across Canada. This event will challenge Canadians to go further to defeat diabetes. Whether it’s a 10-minute ride or a 60-minute endurance challenge, participants will be putting their physical fitness to the test to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes. Sign up today!

Saturday, September 23, 2017 – 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Holland River Historical Tour
Explore the scenic Holland River area and learn about its interesting history. We will be riding on the Nokiidaa Trail, a beautiful trail which connects Aurora, Newmarket, and East Gwillimbury as is part of the Lake to Lake Route. The surrounding nature and parks will leave you feeling rejuvenated and stress-free. At one of our stops, we enjoy a sweet treat from a local bakery. You must register in advance here.

Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Markham Cycling Day
Bring the entire family to the Markham Giro Races for children and youth (3 to 14 years) and the Tour de Markham 10 km, 25 km, and 50 km rides for all ages. Cyclists are invited to share their passion and skills in cycling with the York Region and Greater Toronto Area communities in a fun, safe, and social environment. Register

Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 9 a.m. – Gianni Giro
Participate in the third annual Gianni Giro with biking, trail walking, a fun fair, and a family BBQ! Choose between 5 km, 45 km, and 90 km rides! Help promote health and fitness, and proceeds go to Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation for treating heart failure and disease.

Help “Make Dreams Come True One Kilometer at a Time” with York Region and the Children’s Aid Foundation. Enjoy 100 km of the Region’s scenic hills and back roads in a safe, fun and calming ride.

Sunday, October 22, 2017 – Vaughan Cyclocross Classic
Cyclocross riders are challenged on the fast terrain of the Veneto Centre. Cash prizes are awarded to top riders, park admission and the bike wash pit are free, and food tents and beer gardens will be available all day! Register
