Accessibility Policy and Training

York Region is committed to creating communities where every person can participate fully in all aspects of community life. For this reason, it is important that York Region continue to plan for the future to ensure its goods, services, programs and facilities are fully accessible for people with various types of disabilities.

To meet these needs, York Region has created an accessibility policy that meets the legal requirements of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and ensures people with disabilities can participate fully in society.

Accessibility Policy

The York Region Accessibility Policy identifies how York Region achieves and maintains accessibility by meeting the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Integrated Accessibility Standards, Ontario Regulation 191/11:

AODA Training for contractors and agents

Under the AODA, York Region must ensure all Regional staff, students, volunteers, contractors and agents who directly serve the public, provide goods, services or facilities on the Region’s behalf receive training on the requirements of the accessibility standards, the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, and on the Human Rights Code as it pertains to people with disabilities.
