Accessibility Policies and Training

York Region is committed to creating communities where every person can participate fully in all aspects of community life. To meet these needs, York Region has created accessibility policies. For this reason, it is important that York Region continue to plan for the future to ensure its goods, services, programs and/or facilities are fully accessible for people with various types of disabilities.

To meet these needs, York Region has created accessibility policies that meet the legal requirements of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and ensures people with disabilities can participate fully in society.

Accessibility Policies

These policies identify how York Region achieves and maintains accessibility by meeting the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, Ontario Regulation 429/07, the Integrated Accessibility Standards, Ontario Regulation 191/11 and future regulations as amended.

AODA Training for contractors and agents

Under the AODA, York Region must ensure all Regional staff, students, volunteers, contractors and agents who directly serve the public, provide goods, services or facilities on the Region’s behalf receive training on the requirements of the accessibility standards – Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Regulation, the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and on the Human Rights Code as it pertains to people with disabilities.
