Seniors Strategy

The York Region Seniors Strategy looks at the changing senior population, defines our role in serving seniors and sets the course for action to best support the aging population over the next 10 to 20 years.

Key pressures identified in the areas of finance, health, aging in place and staying safe and connected led to the identification of the Region’s four key roles in serving an aging population:

  • Balance the needs of seniors with all residents
  • Keep seniors healthier, longer
  • Support age-friendly, complete communities
  • Connect seniors and caregivers to the right programs and services at the right times

The strategy will inform present and future planning and balance the needs of all generations. Through the implementation of specific areas of action and advocacy, the strategy will be brought to life.

The development of the strategy consisted of contributions from the Seniors Advisory Task Force, staff from all departments across the corporation, subject matter experts, seniors groups and community organizations.
