The York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting was called to order at 4:04 p.m. on June 24, 2015.

1. What’s Ahead – 2015 Committee Visioning Report Back to the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee
Committee received the presentation by Jason Hastings, Manager, Human Services Strategies and Partnerships, Community and Health Services.
The presentation summarized the feedback obtained from Committee members, outlining areas of opportunity and project ideas for the term of this committee.
2. York Region 2013 – 2021 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan Review and Update
Committee received the presentation by Piragal Thiru, Senior Policy Analyst, Accessibility Unit, Community and Health Services.
Communications
3. Mobility Plus Eligibility Appeal Panel
Committee received the communication from Denis Kelly, Regional Clerk, dated March 30, 2015, which was deferred from the April 22, 2015 Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting.
4. National Access Awareness Week
Committee received the communication from Adelina Urbanski, Commissioner, Community and Health Services, dated March 26, 2015, which was deferred from the April 22, 2015 Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting.

5. Update on National Access Awareness Week
Committee received the update from Kim Adeney, Senior Policy Analyst, Accessibility Unit, Community and Health Services, which was deferred from the April 22, 2015 Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting.
6. Update on Accessibility Activities
Committee received an update from Lisa Gonsalves, Director, Strategies and Partnerships Branch, Community and Health Services, which was deferred from the April 22, 2015 Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting.
The update included the following:
1. The Spirit of Ability Award
Steve Foglia, Vice Chair of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee, received this award at the Honda Indy in Toronto on June 12, 2015, presented by three organizations: Shoppers Home Health, Braun Ability and Conquer Paralysis Now. The award recognizes an individual in the GTA who is working on making his or her community accessible to all.
2. David C. Onley Award for Leadership in Accessibility - Employee Engagement Award
Lois Davies, Program Manager, Accessibility received this award, presented at Queen’s Park in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite on June 2, 2015, which recognizes an employee or volunteer who has created opportunities or broken down barriers for fellow employees or volunteers with disabilities.
3. Overview of the AODA independent review conducted in the fall of 2013 by Mayo Moran and the Province’s responses
4. Accessibility Action Plan
The Province released its Accessibility Action Plan on June 3, 2015, which focuses on three priorities:
a) Engaging employers to understand the value of hiring people with disabilities through various initiatives
b) Strengthening the foundation of accessibility in Ontario by building on the province's accessibility laws and standards
c) Promoting Ontario's cultural shift towards an accessible Ontario
5. Para Pan Am Games
On August 7, 2015 over 1600 athletes from 28 countries will assemble in Toronto to compete in the Para Pan Am Games.
7. Next Meeting
The next meeting of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is scheduled on September 23, 2015.
