Housing with Supports
Housing with supports (formerly domiciliary hostels) offers housing and daily meals for people who need supervision of their daily living activities. These are permanent homes for most people who stay there.
York Region may be able to offer financial help to pay for housing at a home. This funding is for people who cannot pay the full cost on their own. Assistance covers:
- The cost to stay at the home
- A monthly allowance to cover personal needs expenses
- The cost of special services offered at the home
Eligibility
To qualify for assistance, individuals must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Require supervision in activities of daily living
- Not be eligible for long-term care, and
- Require financial help*
They also must either:
- Be the recipient of mental health services or have a mental health diagnosis
- Have a physical and/or developmental disability verified by a medical doctor, hospital or referral source, or
- Be a frail, elderly person
*This will be assessed by York Region staff.
How to Apply
Contact the home you are interested in and make an appointment to visit. The staff will help you decide if the home will meet your needs. They can also help you find out if financial help may be available.
When you choose a home, the home staff will contact York Region and set up an appointment for you. You will meet with York Region staff to talk about your finances and find out if you qualify for help.
