Repair Cafés: Meet Your Match!
If you have an item that needs a quick fix, or you have ‘fix-it’ skills you are willing to share, Repair Cafés are the place for you. Repair Cafés are free events that bring together those with broken items and those who can fix them. A perfect match!
Need a fix?
Do you have a busted bicycle, torn sleeve or a cherished item you would love to use again? Volunteer fixers are available to give your broken item a second chance.
Volunteer fixers specialize in fixing:
- Bicycles
- Clothing / textiles
- Electronics
- General household items like broken chairs, picture frames, toys and clocks
- Jewellery
- Small appliances like fans, blenders and microwaves
Since 2018, with the support of our community partners and volunteers, York Region Repair Cafés have fixed an estimated 550 items and put smiles on more than 900 faces. Bring your broken item to a Repair Café near you and be that next smiling face.
You got the skills?
Don’t let those talents go to waste. Come make someone’s day. Without our valued volunteers Repair Cafés would not be possible.
By volunteering at a Repair Café, you can:
- Give back to your community
- Help others
- Practice the hobby you love
- Prevent good items from going to waste
- Share your knowledge and learn from others
Not handy? That’s okay too. Other volunteer opportunities include:
- Greeters / registration team
- Information coordinators
- Schedule managers
Each item repaired at a Repair Café is:
- One less item wasted
- One less item purchased
- One more proud fixer
- One more smiling face
If you love to mend, fix, solder, glue, stitch, tighten or attach things, or have the gift of making people smile, come make a difference and join the Repair Café team.
Let’s make a match!
Items that can be fixed at each Repair Café is dependent on the volunteer fixers available. Be sure to register your item in advance.
