Storm recovery continues across York Region
The Regional Municipality York is working with our municipal partners to resume services and clean up our communities following the severe storm on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
Residents are asked to remain patient as crews continue work to restore power, reopen roads and clean up debris as a result of the storm.
The following resources and communication channels are available to help keep residents safe following severe weather events:
Road Closures
Up-to-date notifications for Regional road closures and reopens are shared on York Region’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
Food Safety
A power outage can spoil food and make it unsafe to eat; residents and food premise operators are advised to follow safe food handling practices and to throw food out if you are unsure whether a food item is spoiled.
Drinking Water Safety
Local water utility providers will issue a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) or Drinking Water Advisory (DWA) if there is a problem with the safety of the water.
Well Water Safety
Residents and businesses on well water may require an alternate source of safe drinking water if a power outage has cased your water pump to stop working; once power is restored, be sure to flush lines and take a water sample; do not resume drinking water until your water has been tested and results are confirmed.
Storm Debris Yard Waste Clean-Up
Until June 25, residents can drop off storm debris yard waste for free at the Georgina Transfer Station, McCleary Court Community Environmental Centre and Miller Bloomington Yard Waste Depot.
If you have questions or have been charged for storm debris yard waste after June 5 when free yard waste drop-off had initially ended, please contact Access York for a refund at 1-877-464-9675 or email @email with the following:
- Drop-off date and location
- Copy of your receipt
Curbside yard waste collection is also free and unlimited; check your local city or town’s website for details.

- Clarke Tract (15015 McCowan Road)
