York Region celebrates National Forest Week with Planting of Two Millionth Tree
On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, York Region celebrated the planting of its two millionth tree. The ceremony was held during National Forest Week at York Region’s Maple Health Centre, paying tribute to the one millionth tree planted next to it. The ceremony included an offering of tobacco to the two millionth tree from the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation.
Planting the two millionth tree reinforces York Region’s commitment to preserving our shared forest heritage and recognizes the vital role forests play in our communities. This significant accomplishment stands as a testament to our Greening Strategy and what can be achieved when communities, partners, and residents come together to create healthier, more resilient and sustainable natural environments.
