York Region opens community violence prevention funding opportunity for resident-led groups
York Region Community Violence Prevention Funding supports the implementation of the Region's Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Plan by building community capacity to undertake proactive and targeted community-based and culturally appropriate initiatives.
Resident-led groups, under the trusteeship of an incorporated not-profit partner organization, are invited to submit funding applications for up to $4,000 to support projects aimed at addressing community priorities related to community violence prevention. Projects can include activities such as community events, art projects, and other creative initiatives that engage residents in violence prevention efforts.
Resident-led groups interested in applying should propose actions linked to the priority areas of mental well-being, housing stability and economic stability to reduce underlying risk factors that can lead to youth crime, harm and victimization (including involvement in gangs and gang violence).
In alignment with the CSWB Plan, the funding supports will be directed to four identified geographic focus areas within York Region:
- Northern Georgina
- Central Newmarket
- South-central Markham; and
- South-central Richmond Hill (including the City of Vaughan)
Projects funded through the Community Violence Prevention Funding will support youth residents, especially those ages 6-26 years who are Indigenous, Black, young women, 2SLGBTQI+, immigrant and/or refugee youth.
Applications from resident-led groups are evaluated on an ongoing basis until November 30, 2023, or until all funds have been distributed.
