16th Avenue Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 2 starting this fall
The Regional Municipality of York will be working in your community, rehabilitating a 1.5 km section of the York Durham Sewage System that runs along 16th Avenue between west of Mingay Avenue to west of Williamson Road. The work will extend the life and strengthen the structural integrity of the sewer. Phase one of the project, from west of Williamson Road to Ninth Line was completed in 2019.
The work involves installation of a temporary sewage bypass pipe, two sewage shaft access compounds, relining the sewage pipe and other related construction work.
When: Fall 2021 to Fall 2023
What Can You Expect?
- There will be construction-related noise due to the operation of construction equipment. Every effort to reduce the noise, including installing sound barriers around the compound sites, will be made
- Periodically, work on the sewer will happen overnight and on weekends
- 16th Avenue will remain open to traffic; periodically, there may be increased construction-related traffic along 16th Avenue due to temporary lane restrictions and as needed. Staff will be on site to help with the movement of traffic
- YRT transit service along 16th Avenue will continue throughout the rehabilitation work; however, some bus stops may be moved. Riders can call the YRT Contact Centre at 1-866-668-3978 or visit yrt.ca for more information
- Access to all homes, businesses and St. Brother André Catholic High School will be maintained and there will be no impact to your
water or wastewater services
Thank you for your patience while we complete this vital work. As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather or other conditions. Register for the mailing list to receive project updates or visit york.ca/waterconstruction for more information.
