Renewing our Plan for Seniors
About the Project
York Region’s senior population is expected to double over the next thirty years. By 2051, close to one in four (23%) residents will be over the age of 65. The York Region Seniors Strategy was created in 2016 to better define our role in supporting seniors. As our communities have grown and changed over the past five years, we reached out to York Region seniors, pre-seniors, caregivers and community partners to inform our proposed 2023-2027 York Region Plan for Seniors. Results from these engagements are available in a What You Said report.
Thank you to all community members and partners who participated in the online survey, the virtual open houses and workshop. Engagement sessions provide important insights for determining the Region’s actions and advocacy agendas.
Updating our plan
After five years, it is time to renew the York Region Seniors Strategy to ensure it reflects current needs and future opportunities to support seniors.
An update on the activities underway to renew the 2016 York Region Seniors Strategy was presented to York Regional Council in September 2022.
The proposed 2023-2027 York Region Plan for Seniors will build on the successes of the first five years and, together with our partners, continue to focus on fostering healthy aging where seniors can continue to live, work and age in strong, caring, safe communities.
The proposed plan will be presented to York Regional Council in spring 2023 for approval.
