Ring in New Year’s Eve with a free ride from YRT
Newmarket – York Region Transit (YRT) is offering free transit to travellers on New Year’s Eve after 7 p.m. and is extending late-night service to get you to and from your celebrations safely.
YRT service changes will also take effect on Sunday, December 24, 2023 and Sunday, January 7, 2024. Schedule and route adjustments will be made on select routes to match customer demand.
Sunday, December 24, 2023 changes include:
- Suspending of High School Special routes during the two-week holiday closure from Sunday December 24, 2023 to Sunday, January 7, 2024
- Adding more holiday service to Vaughan Mills and Canada’s Wonderland via Routes 720 and 760
- Seasonal servicing to the Recreational Outdoor Campus (ROC) begins with Route 50 and On-Request North
Leave the car at home! Enjoy FREE travel after 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2023, on all YRT and TTC routes operating north of Steeles Avenue in York Region to get you around safely. Service will be extended on select YRT routes until approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024. See extended late-night service times for more details.
Sunday, January 7, 2024 changes include:
- Reinstating High School Special routes suspended during two-week holiday closure
- Restructuring Route 26 Maple to provide two-way service north of Major Mackenzie Drive; service will be extended to Maple GO Station and midday service will be discontinued
- Discontinuing Route 98E Yonge (Limited Express) to match service levels with ridership demand on Yonge Street and to avoid duplication of service; customers can continue using Viva blue, 98 and 99 Yonge
- Extending Route 165 Weston to service Major Mackenzie West Terminal and discontinuing Route 165F; customers can continue using Route 21 Vellore
- Extending On-Request Keswick to service the new Multi-use Recreation Facility

Enjoy York Region Transit (YRT) monthly pass benefits without having to pay in advance! Starting Monday, January 1, 2024, travellers can ride YRT for free after 40 trips for adults, 39 trips for youth or 28 trips for seniors and children every calendar month through YRT’s new fare capping program.
