Highway 400 to Jane Street

Construction start: October 2020
Anticipated completion: Fall 2024

Improvements to Major Mackenzie Drive from Highway 400 to Jane Street in the City of Vaughan began in fall 2020 to accommodate growth, improve traffic flow and provide more travel options for all.

Improvements include:

  • Widening the road from four to six lanes

  • Widening and rehabilitating two bridges located east and west of Wellness Way and Amusement Drive

  • Reconfiguring the bridge over Highway 400, including adjusting and reconfiguring the on/off ramps

  • Enhancing the existing boulevards, upgrading sidewalks, crosswalks, street lighting and tree planting

  • Installing a dedicated multi-use path and extending the existing path west of Highway 400 to Jane Street

Construction Update - Summer/Fall 2024

  • Road work is complete and final site clean-up/restoration is underway

Completed work:

  • Road widening from four to six lanes from west of Highway 400 to Jane Street
  • Bridge widening and structural rehabilitation of the Coaster Bridge and the bridge east of Wellness Way/Amusement Drive
  • Rehabilitation of the north and south sides of the bridge over Highway 400
  • Reconfiguration of the on and off-ramps at Highway 400, including construction of a new westbound to northbound Highway 400 on-ramp
  • Installation of a multi-use path on the south side of Major Mackenzie Drive from west of Highway 400 Jane Street
  • Installation of a sidewalk on the north side of Major Mackenzie Drive from Jane Street to Wellness Way/Amusement Drive
  • Storm sewer work, including five storm sewer crossings, catch basins and a large sewer west of Wellness Way/Amusement Drive and west of Metrolinx Station
  • Utility work and permanent street lighting installation 
  • Streetscaping on the north and south side of Major Mackenzie Drive west of Jane Street
  • Installation of permanent traffic signals at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street
  • Paving from east of Wellness Way/Amusement Drive to Jane Street
  • Paving and pavement markings from west of the Highway 400 interchange to the intersection of Wellness/Way/Amusement Drive (including the intersection)
  • Structural work on the bridge over Highway 400
  • Installation of permanent traffic signals at the two Highway 400 off-ramps and at Wellness Way/Amusement Drive
  • Work on the closure gates at the two eastbound Highway 400 ramps
