Notice of Temporary Sidewalk Closure on 16th Avenue
The Regional Municipality of York is rehabilitating a 1.5 km section of the York Durham Sewage System on 16th Avenue from Mingay Avenue to west of Williamson Road in the City of Markham.
Work on rehabilitating the sewer is ongoing and requires the temporary closure of the 16th Avenue northside sidewalk between St. Brother Andre Catholic High School and Williamson Road.

The entrances to St. Brother Andre Catholic High School and the northside sidewalk, west of the high school, will remain open. Pedestrians on the northside sidewalk will be able to cross to the open southside sidewalk at the signalized intersections at 16th Avenue and Fincham Avenue and 16th Avenue and Williamson Road.
When? Temporary sidewalk closure has begun and will continue to October 2023
Key points regarding the closure:
- Directional signs have been installed to guide pedestrians around the construction area and closed sidewalks
- Please use open sidewalks and the designated crosswalk at 16th Avenue and Fincham Avenue and/or at 16th Avenue and Williamson Road when walking in the area
- There will be construction-related noise and dust, though every effort to minimize it will be made
We understand the sidewalk closure is disruptive; thank you for your patience while we complete this vital infrastructure upgrade. As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather or other conditions.
This summer, be water smart. Commit to minimizing your water use by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth. For more tips visit york.ca/savewater.
