Road Construction - Highway 404 Road Crossing
Together with the City of Markham and City of Richmond Hill and in co-operation with the Ministry of Transportation, York Region is constructing a new road across Highway 404 to improve connectivity and accommodate growth.
Description
- Road work is starting on Orlando Avenue in the City of Richmond Hill and Markland Street and Cachet Woods in the City Markham. These roads will be widened and extended and connect to the new four-lane road over Highway 404 and the Rouge River
- Crews are staging the work zone, including setting up barriers, installing temporary traffic signals, line painting and reconfiguring the traffic lanes
Duration
- Lane reductions and periodic night work until fall 2024
As with all road construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.
Impacts to Travellers and Residents
- On Markland Street, traffic will shift to the north side of the road to accommodate construction on the south side
- On Orlando Avenue, traffic will shift to the south side of the road to accommodate construction on the north side
- Lane closures will take place throughout the day as required
- Night work will occur as required; residents may experience noise outside of regular construction hours
- Access to homes and businesses will be maintained
