Yonge Street, Holland Landing Road and Bathurst Street

Notice of Road Closure (Updated)

Yonge Street remains closed to through traffic for the construction of a retaining wall and road surface improvements and is expected to reopen in May 2023.

Old Yonge Street was previously closed, with access for local traffic only. Despite the closure, travellers continue to use the road. Due to wet weather and increased traffic volumes the road condition has deteriorated and cannot accommodate the traffic. A full road closure is now necessary to ensure the safety of all travellers.

Old Yonge Street is owned and maintained by the Town of East Gwillimbury and York Region is partnering with the town to close the road.

Old Yonge Street will be closed to through traffic from Yonge Street to Holland Landing Road/Yonge Street beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023 to June 2023. Local traffic is permitted to access adjacent properties from the south entrance only.

Highway 11, Bathurst Street and Holland Landing Road are suggested as alternate routes.

Notice of Road Closure

York Region is improving the road surface and constructing a retaining wall on Yonge Street, south of Holland Landing Road.
 
A road closure is necessary to accommodate the large equipment required to install anchors needed for the retaining wall and to ensure the safety of all travellers and construction crews.
 
Yonge Street from Highway 11 to Holland Landing Road in the Town of East Gwillimbury will be closed from Monday, March 13, 2023 to Friday, May 19, 2023.
 
During the road closure, local traffic will be permitted to access the Holland Landing Airpark travelling north along Yonge Street from Highway 11 but will not be permitted to cross the work zone. All other traffic will not be permitted.
 
Following the anchor installation, the road will be re-opened for the remainder of construction, which is scheduled to be complete by late summer 2023.

Road Construction Project Update

Improvements to the road surface of Holland Landing Road from Yonge Street to Bathurst Street and the construction of a centre median on Bathurst Street south of Highway 11 in the Town of East Gwillimbury are now complete.

Improvements to the road surface on Yonge Street from Highway 11 to Holland Landing Road are complete, apart from the portion adjacent to the retaining wall under construction. 

The construction of the retaining wall is more than 40% complete, however operational challenges have caused a significant delay with the next phase of the wall construction. Further work on the retaining wall will be paused for the winter months and will resume in May 2023. 

Construction of the wall is scheduled to be complete in late summer 2023.
