York Region receives $7.3 Million in federal funding to support community safety and well-being
York Region has partnered with Public Safety Canada, to make a difference in our communities. Through the Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF) the Region will receive $7.3 million, over four years, to help support the implementation of the place-based Community Safety and Well-Being Plan for York Region (CSWBP).
The CSWBP takes a strengths-based, partnerships approach to enhancing safety and well-being for residents and communities. By focusing on those communities in York Region that can benefit the most, the Plan provides an opportunity to make the greatest impact by leveraging local resources and strengths to bridge gaps where they exist.
To help bring the CSWBP to life, Community Action Tables have been established for locally driven actions with a broad range of stakeholders, including residents, service providers, grassroots organizations, school boards, York Regional Police, and local municipalities.
CSWBP initiatives funded by BSCF include:
- Children, Youth and Families Situation Tables (co-chaired in collaboration with York Regional Police) (launched)
- Service Navigator Pilot Program (call closed)
- Youth Supporting Youth Pilot Program (call closed)
- Traumatic Incident Response Protocol (TIRP) (coming in Spring 2023)
- Community Violence Prevention Projects (coming in Spring 2023)
Through the BSCF, the federal government is supporting communities to promote capacity-building opportunities that help foster a safe and supportive environment which addresses the underlying social risk factors that lead to gang prevalence.
