Road Rehabilitation Planned for Bathurst Street from Mulock Drive to Davis Drive
Paving operations will occur from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly from Monday, July 27, 2026 to Friday, July 31, 2026 with line painting occurring from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026. See below for additional information.
York Region is removing and replacing asphalt road surface on Bathurst Street from Mulock Drive to Davis Drive. Traces of asbestos, used in asphalt mixes throughout the 1970s and 1980s, are present in the current asphalt on Bathurst Street. While the risk of asbestos exposure is low, York Region’s contractor will take precautionary measures during asphalt removal.
This project includes intersection improvements on Bathurst Street at Keith Avenue and Sykes Road. Traffic signals will be upgraded and new infrastructure installed to improve accessibility. These upgrades will benefit travellers in the community by managing increasing traffic volumes and keeping the road in a good state of repair. Culverts will be repaired and replaced to allow water to flow freely under the road. Guiderails will be installed that provide a barrier between the roadway and potentially hazardous situations.
Project Update
To expedite the project and lessen impacts to traffic, residents and businesses, the Region’s contractor will be conducting paving operations overnight during the week of July 27, 2026.
Changing to night work increases safety for both workers and travellers. Less traffic and longer working hours will allow the contractor to reduce paving operations from two weeks to five nights. This will also reduce disruption to daytime traffic and businesses as all four lanes will remain open during the day.
Police will be present to direct traffic during paving operations. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
Local residents may experience construction noise during these operations, especially on Wednesday and Thursday night due to the nature of the work occurring. York Region’s contractor will make every effort to avoid unnecessary noise.
One additional night of work will be required, approximately two weeks later, to complete final paving. The date will be posted in advance on the portable variable message signs on site in advance of the work.
Impacts to Travellers
The road will remain open to through traffic; however, temporary lane closures are required Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
As with all construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.
