Supports for Families with Young Children

Emergency Child Care

Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement on June 9, 2020, emergency child care will wind down effective June 26, 2020. Licensed child care centres and home care providers across Ontario are able to re-open, with limited capacity and strict safety and operational requirements. The earliest a child care centre can open is June 12, 2020. Opening dates will vary.

York Region is no longer accepting any emergency child care applications.

Resources for Parents and Guardians

During this time of physical distancing and self-isolation, promoting good mental health can be a challenge.

Parents with young children from birth to age six can speak with an early years professional over the telephone about suggestions and strategies such as:

  • Tips for creating routines for mealtime, bedtime, independent play and more
  • Helping you to support the growth and development of your child
  • Using play activities to support your child’s learning
  • Completing forms or referrals for other community services
  • Responding to challenging behaviours
  • Learning about other resources to support families with young children

Parents who would like to connect with a York Region EarlyON Community Program Coordinator can send an email to EarlyON@york.ca. This support is provided through York Region Early Intervention Services and agencies providing EarlyON child and family programs and services in York Region.

Expectant and new parents can also access a registered nurse via online chat or by telephone at 1-800-361-5653 Monday to Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.
