Check out our recipe plans, updated weekly, if you need some ideas on what to make. If you want to mix it up and use some of our ideas and some of your own, that’s great too! Week One - October 1 to 6

Tuesday, October 1

Kick off the #LetsCook30 challenge with a tasty Teriyaki Veggie Bowl. It’s loaded with veggies and when served over a bed of rice, it’s sure to please!

Wednesday, October 2

Try Lazy Weeknight Lasagna, a simple twist on classic lasagna. This dish packs all the flavor of traditional lasagna into a dish with half the effort. Take this meal to the next level by making a green salad served with Maple Dijon Mustard Salad Dressing.

Thursday, October 3

Better Butter Chickpeas are a must try. Make a double-batch and freeze extra in one-serving portions for a quick lunch or hassle-free meal. Try this recipe for Garlic Oregano Zucchini as a great side dish.

Friday, October 4

Keep it simple on Friday night with a fan-favourite! Use the extra chicken you prepared on Tuesday to make Easy Chicken BBQ pizza.

Saturday, October 5

For Saturday’s supper, pick your protein of choice for delicious Lo Mein.
Tip: This recipe tastes best with shrimp, tofu or pork

An Easy Crunchy Granola will be a great snack for the upcoming weeks. Add it to yogurt and fruit or as a topping for Baked Apples. After making your own granola and seeing how simple and delicious it is, you’ll never buy it again!

Sunday, October 6

Sunday’s recipes call for a warm-up with #thenewstew. Join the trend of making a dish full of locally available squash. Prepare no-bake Snack Bites for work or on-the-go.

Stop by and pick up some quick and easy, low cost recipes made with local fresh ingredients. While you’re there sample a homemade, simple soup recipe used in #LetsCook30.

Tuesday, October 1, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. - #LetsCook30 Launch

Join York Region as we launch #LetsCook30; a challenge to cook one or more meals a day for 30 days, where you can win weekly prizes. On October 1, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. York Region will be at Market & Co. sharing recipes and tips to help you prepare healthy, home-cooked meals, made with fresh, local ingredients. Stop in and sample some quick and easy snacks that you can prepare yourself. Perfect for those on the run!

Monday, October 7, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Turkey Today. Pie Tomorrow.

Turkey is undoubtedly the star of the Thanksgiving table, so nothing is worse than having a dry, bland tasting bird. In a demonstration style workshop, Chef Maxine Knight will show you the ins and outs of creating the perfect bird, get some creative side dish ideas, and best of all, discover what to do with the leftovers (that everyone will want to ‘gobble’ up). Wednesday, October 16, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Simple and healthy meals and snacks

Are you trying to cook more often but just don’t know what to cook that’s simple, healthy and fast? This cooking workshop could be for you. Join Public Health Nutrition staff for a hands-on experience where you will learn how to take one recipe and turn it into two, using local, fresh produce while reducing your food waste. Tuesday, October 29, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. - Knife Skills: A Chef’s Guide to Cuts, Shortcuts and Food Waste

This hands-on workshop will walk you through some basic knife skills bringing a deep respect and understanding for everything the knife touches. Chef Julian Pancer will be sharing over 15 years of professional experience, as participants are given a full scope of all things knife. Avoiding food waste will be the main focal point of this workshop, minimizing waste through honed knife skills and education of how to use everything. Participants will be guided through all styles of cuts and cooking methods for a selection of meats, fruits, and vegetables and will be eating everything they prepare, so bring an appetite! Space is limited. Registration required.
