Confidentiality and partner notification

Some STIs and BBIs, such as chlamydia and AIDS, are “reportable.” This means health care professionals are required to report cases to York Region. The Region monitors trends in these infections to improve public health policy, programs and services.

If you are diagnosed with a reportable infection, your identity and information is protected under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). Visit our Personal Health Information Protection Act for more information about how York Region handles your personal health information.

If your partner(s) are at risk of infection and you do not feel comfortable telling them, a Public Health nurse can do this for you. Your identity will be kept confidential.
