Notice of Road Construction

16th Avenue from Woodbine Avenue to Warden Avenue
and
Warden Avenue from 16th Avenue to Major Mackenzie Drive

July to August 2019

The Regional Municipality of York works hard to maintain the excellent condition of Regional roads for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users. York Region is making improvements to the following locations in the City of Markham:

  • 16th Avenue from Woodbine Avenue to Warden Avenue
  • Warden Avenue from 16th Avenue to Major Mackenzie Drive

Construction is scheduled to begin as soon as possible in July and is expected to be completed by late August 2019. As with all road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.Graphic map of 16th avenue and warden avenue showing the area of microsurfacing. Initial work on 16th Avenue and Warden Avenue includes repairs to curbs and catch basins, followed by microsurfacing. This is a cost-effective road preservation treatment, commonly used to treat roads with minor defects. The road surface can feel rougher and sound noisier after the treatment. Over time, the stones will knead together and the surface will become quieter.

16th Avenue and Warden Avenue will remain open to traffic throughout construction, and access to residents and businesses will be maintained. Active construction will occur on no more than 500 metres of road each day, with the location moving throughout the construction period.

To accommodate work on 16th Avenue, temporary lane restrictions will be in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To accommodate work on Warden Avenue, temporary lane restrictions will be in place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane will be open between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
  • One lane in each direction will be open between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Two northbound lanes and one southbound lane will be open between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

York Region will make every effort to minimize disruptions and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area. Please contact us if you have any safety concerns in and around this site.
