12 Confirmed and 7 probable cases of COVID-19 linked to wedding events in Township of King – Friday, November 6, 2020 and Saturday, November 7, 2020

York Region Public Health was notified of the first confirmed case on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Since being notified, York Region Public Health has identified a total of 12 confirmed cases and 7 probable cases associated with these wedding events.

Confirmed and probable cases (as of 5 p.m. November 20, 2020):

12 confirmed cases

7 probable cases

Of these cases:

15 are residents of York Region

2 are residents of the City of Toronto

2 are residents of Peel Region

Deaths: 0

Risk to residents who attended the wedding: high risk of exposure

York Region Public Health is issuing a public notice of an outbreak of COVID-19 cases related to wedding events held at a private residence in the Township of King. At least 9 confirmed cases and 7 probable cases have been identified as related to a series of wedding-related events which took place on Friday, November 6, 2020 and Saturday, November 7, 2020. Confirmed cases of COVID-19 attended these events while contagious.

All individuals who attended these wedding-related events in the Township of King are advised to self-isolate for 14 days until Sunday, November 22, 2020. Attendees have been identified as residents from York Region, Peel Region and the City of Toronto.

York Region Public Health is conducting case and contact management activities associated with these events. York Region continues to work with the family to notify attendees about potential exposures.

If you attended this wedding:

  • Self-isolate for 14 days (until Sunday, November 22, 2020) and monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19
  • If any symptoms of COVID-19 develop, seek assessment and testing at a COVID-19 Assessment Centre and continue to isolate while waiting for your results; if you test negative you must still isolate until Sunday, November 22, 2020
  • Call the local public health unit in the jurisdiction you reside and advise you attended wedding-related events held in the Township of King on November 6, 2020 and/or November 7, 2020

This cluster of COVID-19 infections serves as a reminder of the importance of physical distancing with anyone outside of your immediate household and wearing masks or face coverings in indoor public spaces. This is one of several recent clusters of cases linked to weddings in York Region.

Reminders for all residents:

Testing for COVID-19 is available for anyone:

  • Showing symptoms of COVID-19
  • Exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19, as informed by York Region Public Health or by exposure notification through the COVID Alert App
  • Who lives or works in a setting with a COVID-19 outbreak
  • Eligible for testing as part of a targeted testing initiative directed by the Ministry of Health of Ministry of Long-Term Care

As COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community, residents are reminded to follow public health advice to wash hands often, practice physical distancing, wear a mask in indoor settings or when physical distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained and remain at home if you are sick. All residents are also encouraged to download the COVID Alert App.

All Ontarians are advised to only be in close contact with the people living in their own household and maintain 2 metres physical distancing from everyone else.
