King Horn Bridge and Jane Street East Humber River Bridge



Notice of Bridge Work

In the Township of King

Update August 19, 2020

The Regional Municipality of York (York Region) maintains the excellent condition of Regional roads for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users. Improvements continue on the King Horn Bridge and the Jane Street Humber River Bridge, in the Township of King. York Region is replacing the road portion, known as the bridge deck, on both the King Horn Bridge, located on King Road east of Highway 400 and Jane Street East Humber River Bridge, located north of King Road.

King Horn Bridge:

  • Bridge work commenced on April 13 and is anticipated to be complete in 2021
  • During construction, the road will remain open to traffic and access will be maintained, however, lanes will be reduced from four to two
  • Construction will cease in Fall 2020 to Spring 2021, during which time all four lanes of traffic will be reinstated

Jane Street East Humber River Bridge:

  • Bridge work commenced on April 13 and is anticipated to be complete in fall 2020
  • During construction, the road will remain open to traffic and access will be maintained, however, lanes will be reduced from two to one with a temporary traffic signal managing traffic until the bridge work is complete

Please note: this work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or delays related to COVID-19 and Public Health guidelines. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area.

Travellers are encouraged to use traffic and navigation tools. York Region provides real-time traffic and road information in open data, used by many app developers.

What are the benefits of this project?

Replacing the bridge deck on both of these bridges will ensure the bridges are well maintained and extend their lifespans until a full bridge replacement is required.

What is a bridge deck?

A bridge deck is the horizontal surface or the roadway portion of a bridge.

How will traffic be impacted?

King Road at King Horn Bridge will be reduced from four lanes to two, accommodating traffic in both directions while bridge work is being completed. In the winter months, all four lanes will be open until bridge work restarts in spring 2021.

Jane Street at East Humber River Bridge will be reduced to one lane with a temporary traffic signal managing traffic flow until the project is completed in the fall of 2020.
