Construction began mid-April 2020 and is expected to be complete in the fall of 2020. This work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or delays related to COVID-19 and Public Health guidelines. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

Road improvements on both portions of King Road include:

  • Removing the current asphalt
  • Laying new asphalt
  • Replacing culverts

King Road will remain open to traffic throughout construction, and access to residences and businesses will be maintained. However, to accommodate construction, lane reductions may occur Monday to Sunday between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  York Region will make every effort to minimize disruptions and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area. Please contact us if you have any safety concerns in and around this site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this road construction needed?

Once a road has been constructed, it is important to maintain it so the road can last for as long as possible before it needs to be replaced completely.

What work is actually being done?

Both portions of King Road will be resurfaced, meaning the existing surface asphalt is removed and a new surface is laid. This project also includes the replacement of culverts, a tunnel or crossing located under a road. It can be built to transport either water, people or animals.

When does construction begin and when will it be complete?

Construction will begin April 13 and it is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2020.

How will travellers be impacted?

King Road will remain open to traffic throughout construction, and access to residences and businesses will be maintained. However, to accommodate construction, lane reductions may occur Monday to Sunday between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What can I do if this is my usual route?

To help manage daily commutes during construction, travellers can plan their route in advance by using traffic and navigation tools. York Region provides real-time traffic and road information in open data, used by many app developers.
