Notice of Intersection Improvements

Between West/East Beaver Creek Road and John Street
In the City of Richmond Hill and City of Markham

Please note: this work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or delays related to COVID-19 Public Health guidelines. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

The Regional Municipality of York is dedicated to maintaining the condition of our Regional roads for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. We are making improvements to five intersections along Leslie Street in the City of Richmond Hill and the City of Markham.

Improvements are being made to the following intersections:

  1. Leslie Street and West/East Beaver Creek Road
  2. Leslie Street and West/East Wilmot Street
  3. Leslie Street and Commerce Valley Drive West/East
  4. Leslie Street and Green Lane/Summerdale Drive
  5. Leslie Street and John Street
Utility relocation is now complete and temporary signals are currently being installed. Intersection improvements are scheduled to begin by the end of April and are anticipated to be completed by the end of September.

Improvements include:

  • Widening and repaving the intersection
  • Constructing new bus bays and upgrading York Region Transit bus pads with bus shelters,
waste units and bike racks. The new bus bays will allow buses to pick up and drop off passengers without delaying traffic.
  • Upgrading the traffic signals and crosswalks to meet new Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements
  • Repairing the storm sewers
The intersection will remain open to traffic and access will be maintained, however, temporary lane closures will be required for construction.

Transit stops may be relocated during construction and signs will be placed on the street to notify pedestrians of the new locations. Bus shelters and waste units may also be temporarily removed.
For inquiries about transit routes during construction, riders are encouraged to visit yrt.ca or call
1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978).

We recognize construction may be disruptive and the importance of minimizing the impact to those working, living and travelling in the area. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area.
