Major Mackenzie Drive from Yonge Street to Woodbine Avenue
June to September 2019

The Regional Municipality of York works hard to maintain the excellent condition of our Regional roads for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users. York Region is making improvements to Major Mackenzie Drive, from Yonge Street to Woodbine Avenue, in the City of Richmond Hill and City of Markham.

Initial work on Major Mackenzie Drive includes repairs to curbs and catch basins, following by microsurfacing. Microsurfacing is a cost-effective road preservation treatment, commonly used to treat roads with minor defects. The road surface can feel rougher and sound noisier after the treatment. Over time, the stones will knead together and the surface will become quieter.

Major Mackenzie Drive will remain open to traffic throughout construction, and access to residents and businesses will be maintained. Temporary lane restrictions will be in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., to accommodate construction. Active construction will occur on approximately 200 metres of road each day, with the location moving throughout the construction period.

York Region will make every effort to minimize disruptions and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area. Please contact us if you have any safety concerns in and around this site.

If you have any questions regarding this project, contact information has been listed below. To better assist you, please quote Major Mackenzie Drive Microsurfacing in your inquiry.
