The Regional Municipality of York works hard to maintain the excellent condition of Regional roads for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users. York Region is making improvements to Rutherford Road from Highway 27 to Islington Avenue, and Highway 27 from Highway 407 to Langstaff Road in the City of Vaughan.

Construction is in progress and is expected to be completed by fall 2019. As with all road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice whenever possible.

Road improvements include:

• Removing existing asphalt and repaving with new asphalt
• Repairing curbs, catch basins and maintenance holes
• Upgrading crosswalks to meet new Access for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements including zebra markings, gradual slope ramping, pedestrian push buttons and tactile walking surface indicators

Repairs to curbs, catch basins and maintenance holes are complete. Remaining work includes paving a final layer of top asphalt, upgrading medians and upgrading crosswalks to meet AODA requirements

Rutherford Road and Highway 27 will remain open to traffic throughout construction, and access to residents and businesses will be maintained. Active construction will occur on no more than 500 metres of road each day, with the location moving throughout the construction period.

York Region’s priority throughout construction is to minimize disruption to those living, working and travelling in the area. In order to do this, most of the construction work will be completed at night between 7:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Temporary lane restrictions will also be in place during off-peak hours. Work will not be occurring on Sundays or statutory holidays.

York Region will make every effort to minimize disruptions and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Safety is a priority on all Regional construction sites. For everyone’s safety, please reduce your speed through the construction area. Please contact us if you have any safety concerns in and around these sites.
