"Action!" Housing York youth recognized on the red carpet

YOUTHink contest and award ceremony spotlights creativity and talent that lives in York Region

Newmarket –  Housing York Inc., The Regional Municipality of York’s non-profit housing corporation, rolled out the red carpet last night and honoured its youngest celebrities on the big screen at SilverCity Richmond Hill Cinemas in the Town of Richmond Hill.

The event celebrated talented, creative youth who inspire positive change in their communities.

“Youth are an important part of our communities,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “Events such as these offer a unique opportunity to bring our communities together, recognize our youngest residents for their unique contributions and celebrate York Region’s commitment to creating healthy, inclusive and vibrant communities where residents are engaged and inspired.”

In fall 2017, spirited and ambitious local youth were encouraged to submit personal videos for a chance to win prizes. Winning videos captured family life, culture and faith, technical skills and academic achievements.

Housing York received over 30 submissions and is pleased to recognize seven youth residents whose videos took home top prizes:

“We saw the talent and creativity that thrives in Housing York’s communities,” said City of Markham Deputy Mayor Jack Heath and Chair of Housing York Inc. “These videos showcase and celebrate the positive actions and contributions youth make to their communities and are a testament to their bright futures ahead.”

As the largest housing provider in York Region and home to more than 4,000 residents, Housing York is a responsible and caring landlord. We work with our residents and partners to deliver housing programs and services that are important to our communities.
