Chairment Statement Picture

The Government of Ontario, The Regional Municipality of York, The City of Markham and York University have announced plans to move forward with the construction of the Markham Centre Campus, bringing 4,200 new student spaces to York Region.

Bringing a university campus to The City of Markham has been a long standing goal in York Region’s Economic Development Action Plan and an important strategic priority for York Regional Council.

When complete, the new campus will play an essential role in our economic growth by attracting new residents and businesses and strengthen opportunities for students to thrive in their local community.

On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I wish to thank The City of Markham, The Government of Ontario partners and York University for their shared commitment to developing high-quality education in York Region and helping enhance our community as a destination of choice for higher learning and economic growth.

Wayne Emmerson
York Region Chairman and CEO
