Built to Last: Heritage Properties from York County through to York Region



Newmarket –  As Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary of Confederation, York Region is commemorating this event by introducing Built to Last: Heritage Properties from York County through to York Region.

The online project highlights the settlement of York Region, acknowledging the Indigenous peoples and their use of the land and recalling the built, cultural and natural heritage properties established by early American and European settlers.

Step back in time by visiting the following exhibits at the York Region Administrative Centre, located at 17250 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

On July 1, 1867, the British North America Act  became law, uniting Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia into one nation. In honour of the occasion, members of York Regional Council will raise a Canada 150 flag immediately following the June 29 meeting of Regional Council at the York Region Administrative Centre.
