York Region’s annual emergency management conference to look at impacts of climate change

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is hosting the 2019 Emergency Control Group Training and Education Conference on Friday, November 15, 2019.

Focusing on the theme Impacts of Climate Change: Keeping it Real, the 2019 conference will feature keynote speaker Chris St. Clair, author and broadcaster from The Weather Network.

Other presenters will include Pete Karageorgos from the Insurance Bureau of Canada who will discuss the impact of changing weather on insurance; Paola Parenti from the City of Ottawa sharing experiences related to severe weather and flooding in Ottawa; and Teresa Cline from York Region who will highlight York Region-specific data that has not been widely circulated.

This event will bring together emergency responders, municipal staff and emergency management experts. Attendees will learn how to develop better coordination in emergency management, hear about lessons learned and become better informed about how climate change is impacting the types of hazards faced by our communities.

Experts will be available for media interviews to speak about climate change or emergency preparedness.
