“The Regional Municipality of York has been notified of two additional deaths related to COVID-19.

A 79-year-old male is the Region’s fifth COVID-19 related death. He resided in the City of Markham and died at Markham Stouffville Hospital on Monday, March 30, 2020. This individual first developed symptoms on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. He was in close contact with another confirmed case, residing in the same household.

The Region’s sixth COVID-19 related death is a 92-year-old male. He was a resident at Markhaven Home for Seniors in the City of Markham and passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

On behalf of York Regional Council, I extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the loss of these two individuals.

The health and safety of our communities is of the highest importance at this time. Please do your part in preventing the spread of COVID-19 by physical distancing, staying home and practicing good hand hygiene. We must all do our part to protect one another.”
