Keeping residents and communities informed through enhanced COVID-19 web page

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York continues to enhance information available for residents, businesses and media as we navigate through the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The Region’s dedicated web page for COVID-19 information – york.ca/covid19 – has been restructured and redesigned to offer an improved user experience and enhanced data reporting through a centralized dashboard.

Since its launch in late January, the Region’s COVID-19 web page has served as a trusted source for information with nearly 1.5 million visits to date. A key feature of the updated page is the interactive dashboard which combines in-depth data sets into a centralized location and allows users the ability to toggle between data most relevant to them. Data can be filtered by municipality, date and case type, plus gender, age and status. Information found within the dashboard includes:

  • Confirmed, resolved and active cases
  • Number of fatalities
  • Hospitalization and cases in health care workers
  • Institutional outbreaks in York Region, including active and resolved outbreaks
  • Lab results reported and tests completed by each Assessment Centre
  • Trends in acquisition source
  • Recovery measures

The interactive dashboard is updated daily at 5 p.m., seven days a week. Information included within the dashboard is populated from the integrated Public Health Information System (iPHIS), the Ministry of Health’s provincial disease reporting system used by all public health units across the province. iPHIS is the same data source the province uses when providing its daily updates. In the event of a discrepancy between cases reported by the province and York Region Public Health, data reported through York Region’s dashboard is considered the most up-to-date.

York Region reminds all residents to continue to wash their hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, practice physical distancing and to wear a two-layer non-medical face mask or face covering when outside the home and physical distancing cannot be achieved. With more businesses re-opening, consider keeping a journal of places you have been and individuals you might have had close contact with.

Anyone feeling symptoms of COVID-19 should seek assessment at one of three COVID-19 Assessment Centres located in York Region. Assessments Centres are located at Mackenzie Health, Markham Stouffville Hospital and Southlake Regional Health Centre.

The Regional Municipality of York consists of nine local cities and towns and provides a variety of programs and services to 1.2 million residents and 54,000 businesses with 650,000 employees. More information about the Region’s key service areas is available at york.ca/regionalservices
