Let's get real about smoking

York Region asks what would make you quit? Everyone’s quit journey is different

Newmarket – Quit for the people in your life. Quit for your health. Quit for yourself. On World No Tobacco Day Wednesday, May 31, 2017, The Regional Municipality of York launches its quit smoking campaign by sharing real quit stories of individuals whose lives were affected by smoking.

“Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do to improve your overall health,” said Dr. Karim Kurji, York Region’s Medical Officer of Health. “It’s never too early or too late to quit smoking. If you have tried in the past and didn’t succeed, don’t give up. York Region has resources to help.”

Most smokers need to make repeated attempts to quit before succeeding. Six personal quit stories of former smokers living or working in York Region highlight the negative ways smoking impacted their lives, why and how they quit and the positive changes they continue to experience since quitting.
