Major Mackenzie Drive West road closure

Culvert replacement at McNaughton Road/Avro Road from June 17 to August 30

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is scheduling a road closure to replace a culvert located on Major Mackenzie Drive West in the City of Vaughan. To complete the replacement work, Major Mackenzie Drive West from McNaughton Road/Avro Road to 250 metres east of McNaughton Road/Avro Road is scheduled to be closed from June 17 to August 30, 2019.

The culvert is a large steel pipe tunnel under the road that transports water from the West Don River. A full closure of the road is required to ensure the work is completed as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible. Access to all properties will be maintained during this closure.

While the culvert is being replaced, a pedestrian and cycling-friendly underpass will also be built next to the new culvert which will allow for future travel underneath the roadway, support the City’s trail system network and encourage active transportation in the community. In addition, a new watermain service connection will be installed to support the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.

The public is invited to attend a Information Centre to learn more about the project, meet the project team and ask questions.
