Michidean Limited voluntarily recalls select Jamaican beef patty products due to E. coli O157:H7 contamination

Newmarket – Michidean Limited, located at 7725 Birchmount Drive in the City of Markham, is voluntarily recalling certain Jamaican patty products from the marketplace due to E. coli O157:H7 contamination. Consumers should not eat the recalled products described below.

The following products have been sold in various locations across Southern Ontario.

At this point, there has been no confirmation of illnesses linked to the consumption of these products and the recall only pertains the following:

Lot Numbers:  
• 16320 Michidean JA PATTY Extra Spicy Beef (frozen unbaked)
• 16320 Michidean JA PATTY Extra Spicy Beef (baked)
Consumers are reminded to cook or reheat all frozen foods, including patties and other meat products, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

What you should do
Do not eat this product. Check to see if you have recalled products in your home or store. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store or supplier where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. If you think you became sick from eating the recall products, please call your doctor. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea.

York Region Public Health continues to monitor the situation together with other health agencies, including the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
