Statement from York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson on Ontario’s Fiscal Update

On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, I applaud Premier Doug Ford and Finance Minister Rod Phillips on the Ontario Government’s March 2020 Economic and Fiscal Update.

The update is a fulsome plan to help everyone affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on the Ontario government’s best understanding of the current situation, the fiscal plan provides significant investments to support the health care sector, businesses, residents and the overall economy. It introduces measures to ease the financial burden faced by many of our residents, helps us assist our most vulnerable residents while also increasing the supply of personal protective equipment available to front-line health workers and first responders.

Regional Council is working in-step with our partners at all levels of government to monitor this rapidly evolving situation, contain the spread and protect the health and well-being of all residents within our communities. Through increased public health funding, tax incentives and supports to protect people and jobs, this fiscal update demonstrates a significant investment in residents and our economy.

We continue to navigate our way through this unprecedented pandemic. At the same time, further collaboration with our provincial partners will support the people and businesses of York Region.

Wayne Emmerson
York Region Chairman and CEO
