Passing of Durham Region Chairman Roger Anderson

York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson joins members of Regional Council to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Roger Anderson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Regional Municipality of Durham.

Chairman Anderson died following a courageous fight with cancer.

The Regional Municipality of York offers sympathies to his family, friends and political colleagues.

“Roger was a stalwart of Durham Region, fiercely putting the best interests of his residents and businesses first and foremost,” said Chairman Emmerson. “He believed in the concept of Regional government and took those beliefs to provincial, national and international stages.”

Chairman Anderson presided in his role for the past 20 years. His efforts with his Council colleagues over the years have led to vast improvements for his communities. That legacy will live on for generations to come.

A strong Regional partnership is vital. The alliance between both Durham and York Region remains strong today, thanks in great part to the dedication and commitment of Chairman Anderson.

“I will miss Roger’s strong leadership, approach and passion,” said Chairman Emmerson. “More importantly, I will miss our friendship.”
