Slow down. Speeding costs more than points
York Region launches road safety campaign
Newmarket– The Regional Municipality of York’s most recent statistics show more than one third of collisions are caused by acts of aggressive driving, including following too closely, exceeding speed limits, driving too fast for conditions, improper passing and improper lane changes. To remind motorists about the dangers of speeding, York Region is partnering with York Regional Police to launch a road safety campaign.
Media is invited to attend an event to launch the campaign.
When:
Tuesday, May 14, 2019
4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where:
Bathurst Street at Woodspring Avenue
Newmarket, Ontario
What:
York Regional Police will conduct speed enforcement using radar to detect motorists who are driving too fast. York Regional Police and York Region staff will also be available to discuss the campaign and the role the organizations play in providing safe, efficient and reliable transportation.
The launch of this campaign coincides with National Road Safety Week (May 14 to 20). The annual event raises awareness of behaviours that put road users at risk. Follow York Region and YRP to learn more about the Region’s role in making roads safe, including:
- Red light cameras resulting in a significant reduction of right-angle collisions
- Bluetooth technology allowing York Region to address and resolve traffic issues in real-time
- Roundabouts benefiting traffic flow, lower travel speeds and fewer collisions
