Statement from York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson

Newmarket – Today, I notified the Regional Clerk I am withdrawing my nomination for Regional Chair in the Municipal election to be held October 22, 2018.

I have made this decision with the full support of my family. It is a difficult decision, but it is the right decision for me and those close to me.

I have enjoyed 27 years of public service in the municipal sector that began in 1988 as a local Councillor for the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Two separate terms as Mayor of Whitchurch-Stouffville spanning 17 years followed before my appointment as York Region’s sixth Chairman to represent The Regional Municipality of York.

I am extremely proud to have held this position over the past four years. The work accomplished at the Regional level is vital as our Region continues to grow and mature.

I will miss the work and I will miss working with my colleagues on Regional Council and our talented staff. But there is still work ahead of us between now and the end of this term of Council on November 30.

My dedication to this position and to the Region remains the same; today, tomorrow and in the years ahead.
