Temporary road closures for railway crossing improvements

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is partnering with Canadian Pacific Railway, Canadian National Railway and Metrolinx to make improvements to railway crossings on Regional roads.

These construction projects ensure railway crossings meet the needs of travellers for years to come.

The following railway crossing improvement projects are scheduled for fall 2018. All work is taking place outside peak travel times to reduce impact on commuters.

  • York Durham Line south of 16th Avenue, City of Markham
    Closure: Friday, September 21, 2018 to Sunday, September 23, 2018
  • Ninth Line north of Steeles Avenue, City of Markham
    Closure: Friday, September 28, 2018 to Sunday, September 30, 2018
  • Teston Road east of Keele Street, City of Vaughan
    Closure: Friday, October 5, 2018 to Sunday, October 7, 2018
  • Dufferin Street north of King Road, Township of King
    Closure: Friday, October 12, 2018 to Sunday, October 14, 2018

As with all road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.

Detour route signs will be in place to guide motorists during these closures. The Region recognizes construction can be disruptive and will make every effort to minimize impacts and provide regular updates.
