The Regional Municipality of York and Ontario Nurses’ Association ratify agreement

Newmarket -York Regional Council today approved a two-year renewal collective agreement between The Regional Municipality of York and the Ontario Nurses’ Association.

The collective agreement, representing 234 public health nurses, expired March 31, 2017. Negotiation teams began bargaining in September 2017, reaching a tentative agreement on February 1 and ratified the following day by the association membership.

The contract is retroactive to April 1, 2017 and effective to March 31, 2019.

“Our objective is always to reach a mutually agreeable contract between our unionized employees and the corporation that is respectful of our taxpayers,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “I offer my continued thanks and praise to our nursing professionals for continued commitment to maintaining our high standards of service delivery, benefiting residents across York Region.”

Details of the agreement include wage increases of 1.6 per cent and 1.5 per cent over two years of the contract. The contract also includes an introduction of a mandatory generic drug platform and an increase in benefit coverage for psychological services consistent with other previously negotiated agreements.
